Descriptive Features:

  • elongate oval water bugs
  • antennal segments 2 and 3 each with 1 finger-like projection, segment 4 with 2 projections
  • hind tibia and tarsus very flat and broadly dilated, much broader than mid tibia and tarsus
  • fore tarsus 3-segmented, although often appearing 2-segmented externally
  • anterior claw of fore leg large, posterior claw vestigial or absent
  • abdominal sternites 4-6 subdivided into mediosternites and parasternites by a weak suture-like fold which originates at the basal angle of the subgenital plate (operculum)
  • abdominal spiracles situated on the mesal margin of the ventral laterotergites
  • abdominal air-straps long, mesal margins nearly contiguous
  • Total length: 50 - 70 mm
