AQUATIC ECOLOGIST-Mildura

The Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre is a joint venture between the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, La Trobe University and the CSIRO division of land and Water and is involved in the study of environmental flows, biological and chemical monitoring programs, nutrient cycling and algal blooms, fish and invertebrate ecology, macro and micro invertebrate taxonomy and water quality assessment.

The position, based in Mildura, will undertake ecological research to support one of the largest rehabilitation projects in the world. The position will play a key role in developing an improved knowledge base on the ecological response of river and wetland systems to management interventions with a particular focus on the Lower Murray Darling Basin.

Key requirements of the position include a doctoral or post-doctoral qualification in aquatic ecology and expertise in environmental flows or restoration ecology.

SENIOR TECHNICIAN (HEO6) -Mildura

The Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre is a joint venture between the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, La Trobe University and the CSIRO division of land and Water and is involved in the study of environmental flows, biological and chemical monitoring programs, nutrient cycling and algal blooms, fish and invertebrate ecology, macro and micro invertebrate taxonomy and water quality assessment.

The position, based in Mildura, assists in the co-ordination of condition monitoring at the Hattah and Lindsay-Muclra-Wallpolla Islands Icon sites. The role involves the planning, resource allocation, field collection, desktop management and interpretation of data, and communication of results to stakeholders.

Key requirements of the position include an honours degree in a relevant field plus relevant experience.

Applications are being sought for a

Casual ZOOPLANKTON TECHNICIAN - Wodonga

The appointee will be required to process zooplankton samples using the MDFRC's standard method which includes sub-sampling, counting and identifying microcrustacea and rotifers to the level of Family or Genus using darkfield microscopy and taxonomic keys. Awards and achievements

Rosie Busuttil and Rhonda Sinclair were presented with Certificates of Recognition from the Rotary Club of albury Inc. on 23 June 2008. The citations read: "In recognition of your continuous support in the development and presentation of the Roatry Murray-Darling School of Freshwater research"

Darren Baldwin and Daryl Nielsen have been invited to join the Wetland Aquatic Habitat Consultative Committee for Lachlan CMA's Investment Strategy.
