Summary

The Lower Murray River Monitoring project is a part of the long-term Biological Monitoring Program funded by the MDBC.  MDFRC have been working on two Upper Murray sites since 1980 (see MDBC projects), so the addition of three Lower Murray sites sees an extension of MDFRC's involvement in the collection of this long-term data set.

The project will monitor the macroinvertebrate assemblages in the Lower Murray and Darling Rivers and assess any changes in community structure.  Two sites on the Murray River at Euston and Lock 9 (Cullulleraine) and one site on the Darling River at Burtundy will be sampled in Summer and Winter using Artificial Substrate Samplers (rock baskets) and a sweep net followed by laboratory identification to species level, or lowest possible taxonomic resolution.
