Outcomes
As a requirement of the work placement program the student will prepare a presentation for MDFRC Lower Basin Laboratory staff giving thier perspective on the ecological and technical experience gained during the placement.
Summary
On completion of the ten week program the student will have participated in or been exposed to all facets of work undertaken by technical staff at the MDFRC Lower Basin Laboratory in Mildura. They will have had experience in water quality monitoring; blue-green algae, zooplankton and macroinvertebrate sample collection and processing; vegetation transect monitoring; tree condition monitoring; fish community sampling techniques including setting and emptying of fyke and seine nets; fish identification; aquarium maintenance; live food production (brine hatchery) for captive Murray Hardyhead (fish) population; soil sample collection; planning and organisation for field trips and field and laboratory equipment maintenance.
