Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre

Vegetation

MDFRC supports a team of vegetation ecologists who work with scientists and technicians from multiple freshwater disciplines, to deliver high quality scientific research and synthesis in aquatic and riparian vegetation.

 These include:

  • Vegetation community and structure assessments
  • Assessment of weed species and their ecology
  • Glasshouse experiments and/or manipulative field trials
  • Scientifically analyse data and deliver comprehensive reviews and reports, including reviews and recommendations for management actions
  • Aquatic and riparian vegetation surveys and monitoring
  • Mentoring and supervising university students

The team also has an interest in:

  • Supporting further research on the knowledge of plant species within the Murray Darling Basin and their environments
  • The water requirements of plants and vegetation communities in wetland, riparian and floodplain communities
  • The role of plants in the ecology of our freshwater systems (eg in the provision of habitat resources)
  • The functional role of plants in influencing freshwater processes (eg primary production, nutrient cycling, water quality impacts)
