Rivers and floodplain interactions in Australian lowland rivers
My current research aims to examine the influence of changing flow on biological interactions between rivers and floodplains in order to contribute to our understanding of energy flow and trophic interactions in Australian lowland river systems. Specifically I aim to characterise trophic structure and energy flow across trophic levels (fish, invertebrate predators, invertebrate primary consumers and basal resources [terrestrial invertebrates/algae/CPOM]), in order to describe changes in food webs of lowland riverine and floodplain habitats at various flow stages (e.g. base flow vs. flooding). This will enable insight into how river flow influences riverine-floodplain sources of carbon, trophic structure and energy flow.
