Elliott Newspaper Group Honours Scholarship
The Elliott Newspaper Group, in conjunction with The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre, will be providing an Honours student scholarship in 2015.
The scholarship supports current Honours level students conducting research into issues important to the sustainability of river systems within the Murray-Darling Basin.
The scholarship is valued at $6000 to fund both the research ($3000) and the student ($3000).
Since 2004, the Elliott Newspaper Group has been the generous provider of this scholarship. The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre (MDFRC) are proud to be involved in the selection of the recipient for this annual Elliott Newspaper Group Honours Scholarship. The MDFRC undertakes research to facilitate the sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems. Our vision is healthy productive aquatic ecosystems that are managed in a sustainable manner. The mission of the MDFRC is to generate the scientific knowledge required to enable the sustainable management of water and associated environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin. We do this through the generation, synthesis and communication of scientific knowledge.
Purpose of the Scholarship
To foster research that addresses environmental management issues relevant to the rivers of the Murray-Darling Basin and the associated wetland and floodplain environments.
All students undertaking honours in 2015 (starting in either first or second semester) whose project is relevant to the purpose of the scholarship.
Terms and Conditions
Upon completion of their honours project, successful applicants are required to lodge a bound copy of their (accepted) thesis with The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre. Applicants are also required to deliver a seminar to the MDFRC at the completion of their project.
Applicants will forfeit the scholarship and will be obliged to repay the portion of the stipend for the semester in question under the following circumstances:
The successful applicant will also be required to make themselves available to journalists from the Elliott Newspaper Group, so that articles can be published on the research being undertaken.
The successful applicant must acknowledge sponsorship of the Elliott Newspaper Group and the contribution of The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre in all publicity and reports.
