Descriptive Features:

  • body elongate oval to almost parallel-sided
  • colour chiefly yellowish (in live specimens with a greenish tinge) with more or less extensive brownish patterns
  • head slightly longer than wide across eyes
  • basal pair of cephalic trichobothria inserted towards the base of head, 2 other pairs inserted on anterior part of head, before level of eyes
  • ocelli present in macropterous adults, absent in apterous adults
  • eyes large, spherical
  • antennae 0.6-1.0X total length of insect, subflagelliform, segment 1 with 2-3 dark bristles before apex
  • ventral surface of head simple
  • rostrum extending to mid coxae or beyond
  • fore wings (macropterous) largely membranous
  • abdomen long, usually more or less shiny
  • abdominal scent gland opening distinct, located in middle of tergite 4
  • pronotum (macropterous) subquadrangular, exposing mesoscutellum and metanotal lobe
  • pronotum (apterous) much shorter than head, exposing both mesonotum and metanotum
  • mesonotum distinctly longer than pronotum, with posterior margin produced in middle
  • legs long, slender, hind leg longest
  • femora moderately incrassate, usually with 1-2 dark bristles on anterior surface, just before apex, with a varying number of black spines beneath
  • hind tibia with numerous dark bristles
  • segment 1 of all tarsi relatively short, segment 2 longer, segment 3 longest except in hind tarsus
  • Total length: 2.0 - 4.4 mm
