ventral surface of head with a pair of prominent bucculae, which form a deep groove concealing the basal rostral segments
rostrum long, slender, usually reaching hind coxae and base of abdomen
pronotum relatively short, broad
mesoscutellum narrow, transverse
metanotal elevation usually subtriangular, somewhat reduced in brachypterous and micropterous adults, but never completely absent, posterior margin more or less rounded, sometimes bifid
legs moderately prolonged, hind leg longest
all tarsi 2-segmented, basal segment very small
