This genus is represented in Australian freshwaters by a single species, Cercotmetus brevipes Lansbury.

Descriptive Features:

  • body subcylindrical
  • respiratory siphon relatively short, about 1/4 of body length
  • ventral margin of eyes reaching below venter of head, obscuring ventral margin of head in lateral view
  • antennae 3-segmented, segment 2 with or without a finger-like process
  • fore femur shorter than prothorax, with ventral tooth midway
  • mid and hind tibiae with well developed fringes of swimming hairs
  • Total length: 32 - 60 mm
