This genus is represented in Australian freshwaters by a single species, Rhodothemis lieftincki.

Descriptive Features:

  • labial palps without dentations
  • approx. 30 setae along distal border of palp
  • 8-9 palpal setae
  • 12-14 pairs of premental setae of varying length
  • legs very hairy
  • wing pads long compared to abdomen, extending to posterior margin of segment 9 (mature larvae and final instar exuviae)
  • mid-dorsal abdominal spines absent
  • lateral spines on abdominal segment 9 only, spines short, length less than ½ mid-dorsal length
  • inner margins of anal projections with stout setae
  • lateral abdominal margin and anal pyramid hairy
  • Total length: 16.2 - 16.5 mm
