Descriptive Features:

  • head oval in dorsal view, smooth texture
  • frontoclypeus not greatly wider anteriorly
  • antenna close to anterior margin of head, at the end of a strong carina
  • pronotum with a dense transverse row of erect setae, shiny in texture
  • foretrochantin not fused to propleuron
  • metanotum without central ridge
  • metasternum without setae
  • abdomen cylindrical
  • abdominal segment 1 with 2 ventral setae, lateral hump with 2 black elongate sclerites
  • small abdominal gills (branched or simple) present on anterior segments
  • anal lateral sclerites with many setae
  • Total length: up to c. 14 mm
  • Case: a curved cylinder entirely of secretion
