Descriptive Features:

  • head oval in dorsal view and rounded in cross-section
  • frontoclypeus with several (>2) erect dark setae in each anterolateral corner
  • ventral apotome wineglass-shaped, genae almost abut at occipital margin
  • foretrochantin separated from propleuron by suture
  • meso- and metanotum broad, giving larva a triangular shape in dorsal view
  • abdominal gills branched and simple, present on segments 1-5
  • tergite 9 consists of 2 pigmented sclerites
  • Total length: c. 5 mm
  • Case: broad, flattened anteriorly, constructed of thick secretion, dark reddish brown to black in colour
