Fiona Freestone - Vegetation Research Technician




Fiona Freestone is a Vegetation Research Technician based at The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre in Mildura, Victoria, Australia.

Her main research/technical area of responsibility is riverine, wetland and floodplain vegetation monitoring.

Fiona’s research/technical topics of special interest include:

  • Ecological environmental research
  • Wetland and floodplain understorey vegetation 
  • Lignum


Prior to commencing at MDFRC, Fiona has held positions at:

  • The University of Melbourne
  • Ecosystems Management Australia
  • Hazlewood Forestry

Fiona joined The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre in 2012 and is predominately working on The Living Murray project at  Hattah Lakes and the Lindsay, Mulcra and Wallpolla Icon Sites.

Academic qualifications

  • M.Env.Sc. and Sus. under the supervsion of Dr W. Wright Monash University 2010
  • B.A.L. and D. Monash University 2006
