Descriptive Features:

  • body usually pale
  • antennae 3-segmented
  • coxal plates of hind legs bare
  • ventral abdominal keel extending onto last abdominal segment
  • usually macropterous, but some species also have a flightless, submacropterous form, where the hind wings are reduced (brachypterous)
  • rostrum of male with prominent ‘prong’ on 3rd labial segment
  • stridulatory teeth or pegs proximally on fore tibiae packed closely together and situated on a protuberance
  • fore tarsi 1-segmented
  • Total length: 4.2 - 11.5 mm
